Random Fridays

Recognize that face??? Yep...that's Acorn.

She was adopted about 2 weeks ago. And on day 14, the lady brought her back. Seems her daughter got her a kitten, but then her son bought her a new puppy (for $700!!) so the kitten was being returned. Oh - and she wanted her adoption fee back. That didn't happen.....

However, the next evening a very nice family with 2 teenagers came in and fell in love with this cute fuzzy face (wouldn't you??). The daughter is actually thinking about starting her in training to become a therapy cat. So it was all for the best..... The new family has an adult cat and a dog (mom said she would LOVE to be a fly on a wall for that meeting....miss diva isn't going to be really happy about a d-o-g)
~~~~~~~~~~~
Lyon will head back to the adoption center tomorrow. He will be the littlest kitten available right now, so he should go pretty quickly. Fortunately he is also pretty friendly and that helps too.
Avignon?? Well, mom tried to drop her off yesterday to be spayed and that didn't happen since the first clinic "claims" they didn't know about the hernia that mom told them about. The head of the rescue said take her to another clinic. Mom headed off there....yes, the girl has a big bump on the same back leg. No hernia they could find....just....another abscess. We don't get it. Anyhow, no surgery and she is back to being tortured cleaned up on a regular basis.
We know what you are thinking....but what about that tortie kitten???  Well.....she has an application submitted on her and will be here for a little bit longer until she can get to her new mom.
~~~~~~

Mom dropped the laptop off yesterday so hopefully we will be back on track next week.

Don't forget to enter our giveaway yesterday. Open for a week - US residents or you can donate it to a US charity.

2015 Year in Review (Part 2)

July:
The month started off with a bang (see what we did there) as we took in 3 kittens from a TNR project. To go with the theme, they were named Topeka, Nashville and Reno.

We added more to the full house of kittens here with the spice kittens and their mom.
We did a Blog the Change post about volunteering in rescue (and dealing with the public).
London and his snot were still here.

Cairo got adopted.
The TNR kittens gained some freedom.
Mom bought a tower to replace the playpen for foster kittens.
There was an update on the spice kittens.

August:
We celebrated birthdays and gotcha days.
Mom did a post about applications and being in rescue.
We celebrated our 6th Blogoversary.
Chaos broke out with 8 (!!) kittens running around the house.

We talked about the importance of microchips for Check the Chip day.
In a moment that still makes everyone laugh, mom got the DNA results back on Grandma and Grandpa's woofie Izzo.
Daiquiri turned a year old.
London was adopted.

September:
Cinnamon the foster kitten ran for the Rainbow Bridge (they think it was FIP).

Morocco the momma cat to Cairo and London got adopted.
Once again we have to convince Mo that Mo Cats Day isn't about him.
Mom got attacked by bees!!!
Spud turned 7.
Tostada was sick at the adoption center, came back to our house and needed surgery.
                THANK YOU to everyone for their moral and monetary support!!
Anise and Topeka were adopted. (mom posted that Reno was too, but that was a false alarm)
The nuts arrived here.

Mozart turned 9.
We also briefly had a mom and kittens named Devon and the Moos. Sadly mom cat didn't adjust to being in a home...they went back to the adoption center. The kittens didn't thrive and mom went back to her colony.

October:
Tim and Tom turned 12 years old.
The apple kittens came to the house and mom posted about a great adoption story.

A nut-date.
We got a haunted house.

We did a Blog the Change post about TNR.
We posted about the differences of having kittens of all ages at our house.
Mom helped others celebrate National Kitten Day by taking kittens for visits to offices with the help of Uber.

November:
None of the Apple kittens survived. They all went downhill pretty fast. Mom was heartbroken but knew that at least they were given a chance and knew some love with us.

Mom headed off to Bark World. She got to meet the Canopy Cat Rescue guys.... happy sigh  :)

Mom vented a little frustration about why we do what we do with fostering.
Mom won a MeowBox at Bark World and finally broke it open for us.
Lille and the French City Kittens made their arrival.
Orleans, the little orange baby didn't survive however. (we were never sure if she wasn't related to the rest or just tiny)
Lille ended up back at the adoption center when she developed a huge abscess on the side of her face.

December:
We discovered Margarita hadn't actually been adopted - and got to see her when she was moved to a remote adoption location closer to us (and the same one where her daughter Tostada is at).
Tostada

Margarita

Acorn was supposed to be spayed but wasn't spayed due to her eye issue.
Mom posted about an accident that happened here with one of the kittens (hard to read - you may want to skip this link).
Reno got ADOPTED!!

We got a gingerbread house and mom finally got it set up.
We had kittens gone wild around here.
Spud and Ivy celebrated their Gotcha Day.
We posted about a video done by our friend Miss Lisa promoting Our Wish for animals.
Daiquiri celebrated her first Gotcha Day.
The French City Kittens got a little more freedom (except for Avignon).
We got to open our Secret Paws box.

And then it was Christmas and New Years and wow....where did 2015 go??  THANK YOU for reading and commenting and lurking and being our friends.

kittens gone wild

Mom isn't sure if it was the weather being nice this weekend or what, but everyone here had a case of the crazies. The kittens had a HUGE dose of them.....
Calais is trying to figure out what Acorn thinks she is doing

the chase is on

apparently Daiquiri needed some ninja protection

pretty sure this is Lyon
(he is a little bigger than Avignon and his eyes haven't quite cleared up -
but certainly need to consider collars for them both)

love that you can see Acorn's faint stripes

no, they aren't supposed to be on the books

guarding the ladder

Acorn is doing pretty well with the little ones. She can be a little rough with them but does back off. On the other hand, the little ones are a little bit over dramatic, so that doesn't help. Daiquiri of course thinks they are all fascinating and loves to chase them around the condo. Thankfully she is very gentle with the little ones (Acorn is another story, but she can take it).

so this happened

Or more to the point, didn't happen:

The vet at the spay/neuter clinic got a better look at Acorn's eye after mom dropped her off. The vet was concerned about the "vascular nature" of her eye and said to use a different drop for a few days and delay surgery.

So after spending the day at the clinic, she came back here Friday afternoon and will be around for a little while. Mom is hoping to get everything cleared up and get her spayed before Christmas so she has a good chance of going home.

The little kittens have been spending some time outside their room. Two of them have figured out how to get over the gate, so mom just moved it and they get time out to run around and are then put back for a time as well.

Plus there was that football game late Saturday night that kept mom up until midnight. At least those green guys won.

random Fridays

Tommy may not be as patient with our foster kittens as his brother Tim is, but once they get big enough Tommy decides they aren't so bad. Or maybe he just fell for Acorn's cuteness.

If you don't follow Peace Love and Whiskers, be sure to check them out. Today they are featuring the mom as a special post about fostering and blogging.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
checking out the neighbors
hey look - an escapee
Yes, Miss Calais made it over the gate
(and yes her eyes are a little goopy)
Can you spot the white toes?
Acorn was dropped off this am for her spay so she will head up to the adoption center this weekend. We would like to say it will be quieter here, but we suspect there are some other kittens with other plans.
Have a safe and WARM weekend. We got cold here this week and are spending time curled up in beds, with each other or with mom.
weekend report
We hope you all had a safe weekend. Good news - mom brought home some turkey and she shared a bite with each of us!!
The rescue had an adoption special this weekend. Lots of adoptions (no final numbers yet), and this guy went home too (mom wants to pull his paperwork and hopes he went home with another kitten):
Almond got adopted on Friday
Acorn saw our rescue vet on Wednesday and got the ok to move forward with her surgery and  then get her out there to be adopted. If you look close at the first picture of her, the left eye is clouded over. She got an eye infection about a month ago and developed an ulcer. It healed but left a scar on her cornea. She seems to see something from it, though not perfectly. It isn't causing her pain or bothering her, so she is good to go.
Tommy spent Sunday just hanging around.
Everyone is pretty happy mom is home. Two of the city kittens are friendlier now and mom will continue to work with the other two. Since they are vaccinated, the gate is up in front of the door and Daiquiri has already gone visiting.
weekend report
Mom didn't know the top of the tower could hold three cats -
Nashville in the back, Ivy to the right and Daiquiri in front.
 You would never guess that Almond was neutered on Wednesday.
He and Nash and Daiquiri were wild over the weekend.
Despite it looking like Nash is kicking Almond's butt, generally Almond starts it.
Daiquiri is still fascinated by the TV.
Nashville and Almond went to an adoption event on Sunday. Mom is hoping to get them up to the adoption center on Tuesday so that they have a chance of getting adopted over the holiday weekend. Nashville is super sweet and healthy now. Almond has personality to spare.
Acorn is still snotty. Mom is getting her into the vet on Wednesday to see about maybe a different round of meds. Acorn's right eye ulcered at one point and has healed but is not clouded over. Mom thinks she sees some things in bright light but has definitely lost some vision. But it doesn't bother her so they are going to leave it and just talk to potential adopters.
play time #sponsored
**as part of the Blogger Influence Group, we get a free product once a month to review for Chewy.com but that does not influence our opinions. The product review is our honest opinions. Chewy.com is not responsible for the content of this review.
This month we got the Kong Triangle Play Mat to try out. Mom didn't read the dimensions before she emailed that we wanted to try it. On the website it says 14.5" by 12". We gotta say - its small. In fact, even the nuts (who weigh about 3 pounds each) barely fit in there.
That being said, any toy with something dangling from it is a hit around here. And since the sides are pretty tough, it stays upright and we haven't banged it over yet. However, with the other toys around here (especially our crinkly tunnel), even the little kittens lost interest faster than mom expected.
The really nice part is that it is held together with velcro and folds flat. Mom is going to fold it up and then break it out again when the newest group is a little more active and ready to play. They should be just the right size.
Nashville checks out the toy
Daiquiri attempts to see if she fits inside
(for the record, she doesn't)
Almond does fit (sorta) and gives the toy a good whapping
Overall score - meh. The adults lost interest quickly once they discovered they won't fit inside (if you are going to have a good hiding spot, inside is best). Nashville and the nuts find the toy pretty interesting, but otherwise don't seem too interested either.
On a side note, the mat came out Sunday afternoon. Monday night mom heard a thump in the hall. She checked and found the mat halfway down the hall....and the mouse removed from his string. Not a cat in sight. Oh well.....
weekend report
We were spared from mom yelling at the TV about football this weekend. She went out to lunch with a friend and missed the game....but her team won so it was all good.
Mom mostly spent time with us and relaxing. She is enjoying that Acorn has decided she wants to be more of a lap cat now. Almond is going on Wednesday to be neutered and then will head out to be adopted. No family yet, but hopefully a family will step up soon and find him. Acorn is still pretty snotty - may be time to find a new med for her. Nashville is still here too....mom is afraid if he goes back to the adoption center he will get really snotty again from stress. But....he isn't getting adopted in our living room - he needs to be somewhere out where he is seen. He may go with Almond and see if that helps him adjust.
Reno and Tostada are still at that remote adoption location. We haven't had an adoption from there is a little while. Mom may consider moving Reno to the adoption center with the other boys from here and allow an adult to move to the store.
We have a surprise for you tomorrow....it's cute, we promise.
Random Fridays
From the mom:
All of you who read and comment - you rock!! Thank you for the words of encouragement...it helps to hear them.
~~~~~~~~~~

We wish you a nice (warm) and safe weekend. Mom is having lunch with a friend on Saturday but said otherwise she will be home. YAY!!
~~~~~~~~~~~
As we mentioned earlier in the week, we won a mega box from Meowbox while mom was at Bark World. You can get a subscription for yourself from them and mom thinks it nice that you can also give a box as a gift to someone else. The cool part is that each box is addressed to the cats in the house getting the box. The lady mom spoke to said that no matter how big they get, they intend to keep the personalization for each box.
lots of treats and toys
mom said one bag of treats is going downstairs
to share with our feral girl Allie
This toy is kind of neat - the ball in the middle has catnip.
Mom was trying to get Daiquiri to chase this toy -
it is nice and light and easy to bring back.
There were some chicken dental treats that mom opened.
Ivy wasn't a fan.
Nashville was such a fan he whapped anyone who got close to his share.
This fish has valerian in it. We haven't had that before
and this toy was a huge hit....with us.
Mom says it is pretty stinky.
Junior certainly enjoyed it.
Almond found the ball and decided to beat it up.
We don't think the nip affects him yet (he may be a little young)
but it was light enough for him to toss around.
Mo getting his valerian on.
We loved everything in the box. Mom is keeping some aside to trade out toys to keep us interested. She opened one bag of treats and said we will get to try the others a little later. We have to say, we loved opening the box and seeing what was inside.
Thanks to Meowbox for sponsoring the cat breakfast at BarkWorld and also for offering 3 boxes as prizes. We LOVED ours.....
