Hapoy Birthday Boba

 The baby turns one today. 

Hard to believe she used to be that little. 

Boba is certainly one of a kind and keeps us all on our toes. She will snuggle with mom at night. Hates to have her nails trimmed. Taught herself to play fetch. Has figured out the food puzzle. And has opinions about EVERYTHING.

 OK....it was yesterday. Mom got sidetracked. It happens.

Anyhow, happy 6th Birthday to our resident strange tuxedo girl (and her sister Cupcake who lives with our friend Miss Julie).

A friend was over the other evenjng and managed to get pictures of Chanel on the cat ladder in her favorite positions. Mom hasn't been successful since Chanel moves if mom gets close.

If you would have asked when she came here as a foster, we wouldn't have thought she would celebrate here. But we are glad she is happy and healthy.

We are still looking to get her into her forever home. Mom's friend Heather actually has Mike right now for a couple of weeks. She gets more space and is around other cats all day. She is doing really well but was happy to see mom last night.

Hard to believe 4 years ago these kitten entered the world. They didn't get to our house until a few days later, but they grew up here. 

We have never gotten updates on the boys, but Dior is now Cupcake and lives with our friend Julie.

Bissell went back to the rescue on Saturday and will be spayed today. She managed to get out of the foster room about 11pm on Friday and went after Daiquiri and Chanel. No one was hurt but Bissell was VERY angry.

Mom is hoping that her being spayed and away from the kittens will calm her down some. Bissell is still kind of hard to read but right now mom isn't sure if it is hormones, kittens, both or just Bissell. Until she is spayed and away from the kittens, it is hard to say. And since she either figured out the door or Daiquiri pushed it open, it causes a scary situation for mom. So back to the rescue and some decompression. She will be by herself for a few days after being spayed while the rescue gets a better handle on her attitude toward other cats. Mom is very sure she shouldn't be with kids, so that will be part of it.

We aren't sure when it happened, but guess who had a birthday on Sunday??  Goldfish turned 1 year old. HAPPY Birthday sweet girl!!!

Mom went shopping on Saturday and bought a new harness for Chanel. She isn't sure what she thinks about it, but she sure is cute.

Can you believe it has been a year??

Mom sent an email to the families that adopted the boys. We got an email from from Versace's family. He is now called Sunny and has grown into a big handsome boy. He loves their window seat and has his own kid and sleeps with her every night. No comment on whether he has retained his ownership of the #ouchdammit title or not. haha

hard to believe he is 11 years old

For those that don't know his back story, he came to us as a foster with his orange tabby brother that mom named Picasso. Mo got a serious eye infection and hung around the house WAY longer than most foster kittens. She finally got him healthy and back to the shelter....then panicked when she realized she might never see him again. She went back the next day and filled out his adoption application.

He really is a sweet boy - greets people at the door and has to check everything out. He doesn't mind the other cats in the house....though he HATES foster kittens. They try to snuggle and he is all "GET OFF MY LAWN". Grumpy old man.

He had his annual check up a couple of weeks ago and was declared fit as could be. In fact (gasp), the vet suggested he could put ON a pound. More treats for him we guess.

For those that don't know the story, mom was fostering for a different group back then. She had Ivy and her sisters and mom when she got a call from a neighbor of our grandparents that one of their kids had found a kitten. Mom of course went to pick up the kitten and ran to Petsmart to get the kitten tested before bringing him or her home. They needed a name and the kitten was this little brown ball of fuzz....and was christened Spud - which stuck. The intention was to have him adopted through the humane society, but that didn't pan out so much.

Seems like just yesterday that mom's friend Beckie called about a tiny kitten needing a surrogate mom and Daiquiri joined a mismatched group of kittens being cared for by Cassidy. While mom certainly wasn't planning to expand our family, she is a good fit.

Oops - mom forgot that Junior's birthday was on Wednesday. HAPPY 7th Birthday!!

By the way, mom would like to know how the heck it has been 7 years!!

We have contestants for the Blog Paws trip. Right now mom is sure she is taking Gucci and Armani, and is leaning toward including Dior.

Armani knew he was in all along.

Here's the deciding factors: they have to be outgoing and people friendly. They have to be pretty calm about weird things going on. They have to like to be picked up and carried around.

Gucci and Armani have this in spades....they are the first to jump on mom for attention. They do get squirmy being held, but all kittens do. However, they don't immediately fight to get down.

Dior is a little behind them. She comes over for attention and likes it but seems to sometimes have better things to do.

Chanel is a little skittish and shy right now. Mom is concerned travel and being around crowds would freak her out.

He's a biter.....and he has no remorse or shame. He will let you hold him but he has much more interesting things to do somewhere else thank-you-very-much. He comes right over for attention and love, but just is WAY more trouble than anyone needs in a hotel room. Seriously.... And did we mention he bites???

Why 3 kittens? It actually works out....if mom takes one out of the room, there is still a pair to keep each other company. Mom feels bad if she takes one and they don't have a friend in the room or if she takes 2 and one spends time alone when the other is out of the room. She took 3 kittens to Nashville and it seemed to work out very well. Plus, if she gets one that absolutely freaks out being in a crowd due to noise or whatever, she has other options.

Obviously we had NO intention of keeping her....but she was here so long while we sorted out her test results (she initially tested positive for FeLV and then sort of positive and then finally negative) that she made herself at home.

She loves to play fetch (and if mom isn't quick enough to respond she has been known to throw the ball back down the stairs herself). She adores Junior (thank heavens). She seems to like the kittens....though not as much as mom was hoping for after several attempts.

As mom said after making the final decision to adopt Daiquiri, sometimes you get what you need and not what you thought you wanted. And we like that.....

Mom finds it rather amusing that as a failed foster (failed to be returned to the shelter), he is relatively intolerant of the foster kittens. But he LOVES the mom and everybody else here, so mom says residency wins and the kittens have to leave him alone. :)
