A little quiet

The Muffin Kittens went to their forever homes over the weekend. Blueberry is now Mia and Cranberry is now Remington.

Not so bad

It hasn't been too bad with the kittens out all the time. Mom is working on prepping the kitten room for spring.

They are playful and curoius. So far only one disaster involving the desk and mom's iced coffee. Everything survived but we are working on "no" and "get off the desk".

Really???

Yeah....that happened.

After rescuing her twice, being stabbed by her nails (and them give her a pawdicure), mom gave up and let them both out.

Sometimes it's not worth the hassle.

They are looking much better so the goal is get them fixed next week. There is a reason we don't normally have kittens this age.

Same as before

They are getting bigger, friendly, sweet and purry. About 4 pounds. Both have families waiting once they are fungus free and fixed.

Kitten report

Well...30 days out and the fungus is ongoing. So plan B is the meds which we just started. So frustrating.

Have to say, these are some of the happiest kittens. They love to play and constantly purr.

And she LOVES to play with the boy....

Kitten report

The muffins continue to do well. There are very vocal complaints twice per day for canned food. Down to a couple of spots from the ringworm hopefully only a couple of more weeks.

New toy

Well things are pretty much the same around here.

Quick note: it is really really cold here. Mom worries a lot about our feral girl Allie. The food in the garage hadn't been touched on Monday and mom was freaking out. But mom ran put quick last night and Allie had eaten and actually was in the garage. Sigh....

So much for that

Baby jail 2.0 lasted a week. It appears Miss Blueberry has enough upper paw strength to grab the top rail and pull herself up. Cranberry is appalled of course.

All the swear words

Ivy was supposed to be getting ear drops once a day for 2 weeks. Mom was sneaking up on her while canned food snacks were served. Good news - it worked. Bad news - only for a week. That said, her ears do look better.

In other news, Blueberry discovered on Saturday that she could climb the pen used as baby jail. Dang it. However, mom had ordered the taller Tespo panels. Now they are zip ties to the inside and the kittens are once again trapped.

However.....the swear words really came into play on Friday. Mom was on a call and had Blueberry out on her lap. There was something on a back foot and mom figured it was litter. It was not....it was a scab that came off revealing: a ringworm lesion. ALL the swear words. As we say, it's not fatal unless the animal is in a high kill shelter (most won't treat due to the time it takes), it's just annoying. It can be passed to people so they stay in our intake department or the foster home until it clears up. Stupid fungus

Now, it will clear up but they are here for the duration (probably another 30 days). Not that we don't enjoy having them here, but dang.

Muffin videos

Just a couple of quick videos.

First mom got out a spring toy and Blueberry is obsessed.

Then evidence that dispute his whining to the contrary, Cranberry does start things with his sister.

Almost that time

Mom hasn't weighed them in the last week, but Cranberry and Blueberry should both be big enough for surgery.

If you look close, you can see something on her lip. We have a plan to get a vet to look at it but it isn't spreading so not entirely sure what it is.

For those of you have seen them on the web cams, don't believe for a second that Cranberry doesn't deserve the butt kickings he tends to get on a regular basis.

He's back there isn't he?

Muffin update

They were weighed on Sunday. Blueberry was 2 pounds 3 ounces and Cranberry was 1 pound 14 ounces.

(taken from the web camera)

We don't have a date for surgery yet. Clearly Cranberry doesn't weigh enough yet. Blueberry has a weird thing going on with her lips and we want to keep on eye on that for a little bit to make sure it isn't anything serious.

They are doing great. Love attention, love playing with each other. Cranberry is still pretty whiny when Blueberry chews on him, but he starts it more than half the time so don't feel sorry for him.

Really Crash

So some cat....who shall remain nameless....but looks like this:

Got herself in trouble the other day.

Mom had gone to bed and heard a noise in the kitchen. A lot of noises she will ignore but this sounded like something crashing to the floor, so she got up to check. Things were moved in the basket on the dryer, so mom figured some cat (probably Daiquiri or Goldfish since they were "casually" walking away as mom came down the hall) had grabbed the edge of a bag and pulled.

She turned to go back to bed and heard another noise. Her eyes adjusted and....there was a cat on the counter. With her front feet in the sink. Who then flicked a paw covered in water at mom. RUDE!

Mom considers herself pretty lucky in that we stay off of the kitchen counter. Though in our defense she isn't the best housekeeper so there is stuff up there we might run into. However, if you remember Chanel's run in with the momma cat, we know she can get up there since that is how she got IN the foster room. But she still got a lecture about staying off the counter.....

The kittens continue to do well. Mom needs to weigh them this weekend and they just got another vaccine. Right now it is just about feeding them, letting them play and keeping them social.

Muffins

The kittens are doing great. Thankfully they've gotten the hang of being self cleaning. Mom has been leaving the airlock open during the day while she works since they aren't tall enough to get over it (yet). Daiquiri likes to go over to clean the plates. Chanel can't figure out how to get over so she lays in front and flirts with the kittens.

This right here is the face of trouble. She would be to differ. But mom has chased her around the condo more than once. And this one likes to chomp on her brother to make him cry.

This would be the crybaby. He could fight back. He could run away. Instead he lays there and howls while she smacks or bites his tail.

Jail break fail

A few things

Good news (if you missed it): Huzzah was adopted on Wednesday. Her new mom is in her early 20s and a first time cat owner, but Huzzah is a good fit. Mom got a text that the first night she was on a smaller room. Next morning she decided enough of that and slipped out into the house when the door opened.

The Texas kittens were spayed and neutered on Friday. Sunday they got their microchips and are now at the adoption center ready to go home.

And....Hibiscus, Lantana and Verbena all got adopted!

The muffin kittens have a new version of baby jail in the living room. They have more room to bounce around. They can't get out (yet) though the girls can get in to check the food bowls for leftovers.

So baby jail 2.0 lasted about 4 hours before Cranberry realized he could climb over. We have moved on to baby jail 3.0. Mom has to clean the foster room and them they will go in there, though still in the crate for another week.

Updates

We got some updates....we thought we would share.

What is that? You heard there is something new in the house? You want to see them? OK fine...

Saturday morning, mom got a message from Miss Bernadette who write and does amazing art over at Portraits of Animals and is also very much involved in rescue in her hometown.

Someone from near us had reached out to a friend if hers and needed help. They had found a pair of TINY kittens and weren't equipped to take care of them.

Working together, the rescue here agreed to take them and mom picked them up Saturday night. They were found in a spot that made it pretty clear they were dumped though the lady that found them will continue to look for a mom or other kittens.

Their teeth are just coming in. So maybe just 4 weeks old. But they are eating canned food fortunately so that's helpful. For now they are in a crate in the living room.

So cute. No idea if they have baby fuzz or if they are going to be long haired. Mom put a hesting pad in there to keep them warm.

Oh and names: meet the Muffins - Cranberry and Blueberry.
