On Tuesday morning, mom got a phone call at work from the Petco store where our adoptables go. Seems some jerk person left a cat in a laundry basket covered with a board and a brick in front of the store. The girl above was terrified, had hair loss and was covered in fleas. The store manager treated her fleas and they set her up in a big crate with food and water and a litter box until mom could get over there after work. In the meantime, mom sent a text to the rescue and asked if they could help. The head rescue lady said to take the kitty to the clinic in the morning for spay and shots and everything else.
The store clerks were calling her Penelope. Mom brought her home and she really didn't want to come out of the carrier. After mom's shift at the shelter, she sat with Penelope who finally came out of the carrier and ate something and loved on mom some.
Mom got a surprise the next morning at the clinic - Penelope was already spayed and had a microchip. The chip tracked back to a small local rescue (not ours) who picked her up from the clinic and was going to contact the adopter and see what was going on. Mom is going to contact the rescue to see if we can get the rest of the story, but if not, we at least know she is safe back with the group that saved her the first time.
Mom got an update from the rescue - the person who left her was the person who had originally adopted her as a kitten. But the kitty is back with her original foster mom and may be adopted into their family.

And then there is this gremlin. Amelia the Dust Bunny got a bath last weekend. She is getting over the snotty crap running around here but had some stuff in her furs. Mom tried to comb it out but no luck. So the Dust Bunny got a bath. She was VERY unhappy about it (mom mutter something about thank cod the nails were clipped). Mom discovered some of Amelia's furs are actually wavy - though once she is dry you can't tell. And Oliver followed her around until she dried out sniffing her....like the bath itself wasn't embarrasing enough.

Still no applications on our Licorice girl. It makes us kind of sad....but she seems to be enjoying living at the Petco. She gets out and hangs with the clerks on their laps. Plus mom bought some grain-free dry food that she was scarfing up the other night. Paws crossed nothing sets her back to chewing on herself again.
Good weekend wishes to all of you. It is COLD here so we are hoping for some sunpuddles.

A pox on "Penelope's" original adopter, but we're glad she's safe and hope the foster mom will be able to give her a wonderful forever home. Poor sweetie.
ReplyDelete"Gremlin" absolutely describes those photos of Amelia. LOL.
Purrs and paws crossed for Licorice to find a wonderful forever home too.
The person who adopted Penelope could have at least taken her back to the store and handed her over to them with apologies and a reason. We hope she will get a loving home soon.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
That sounds so fishy about the cat that was dropped off. Hope the poor thing finds a home. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThat person better have a good reason.
ReplyDeletePoor Licorice. She is probably happy just somewhere warm and safe.
There is only a good outcome for Penelope who did not deserve to be with that "person" who adopted her. Why in the world would she just not take her back to the original rescue group? I know all the groups around here tell the adopters they will take their cats back if it doesn't work out. AMAZING! Well we are glad that was a very happy ending. OH MY Amelia you are a dust bunny!! Hahaha and we are purrin hard for a forever family for Licorice.
ReplyDeleteFrom what we understand, it was in her adoption contract that she would go back to the rescue group. Our rescue has the same clause. We don't know whether people don't want to, are embarassed or what, but it happens more often than it should that groups gets calls from somewhere else to come get one of their own cats.
Deletelots of people are afraid to return a cat to a rescue fearing it will be put down.. I used to see it all the time on craigslist.. oh I got this cat from so and so rescue and I need to find it a new home.. blah blah blah.. I'd always forward them to the rescues in question and let them follow up with it..
DeletePurrs for Penelope and Licorice..
ReplyDeletePoor Penelope. How could somebuddy treat that gawjuss girlie so bad? I hope that her next home is her FOREVER home and she's treated like the princess she is.
ReplyDeleteWiggles & Wags,
Mayzie
Penelope's story is just terrible... but at least she wasn't dumped out in a field or woods. Hisses to her old owner regardless and we hope they don't own any other kitties. Sending purrs for Licorice.
ReplyDeletePoor sweet Penelope, no wonde she was frighted. Sounds like what happened ro Sister Sascha. I sure am glad she is safe.
ReplyDeleteGeez, I hope the name of whoever abandoned Penelope gets put on some sort of "do not adopt" list! Because they should never have a cat again if they abandoned her like that. I'm glad she is safe.
ReplyDeleteBoo to Penelope's adopter. That person could have (and SHOULD have) called the rescue Penelope came from instead of leaving her at Petco in that condition. BOO!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad Licorice is enjoying life being loved on at Petco but we are purring her forever family isn't too far away. :)
Poor Penelope! Her adopters ought to be ashamed of themselves for dumping a frightened cat instead of at least facing up to the rescue and bringing her back to them, the way she committed to when she adopted. We hope she finds a forever home with her foster family. She deserves the love and stability they can provide.
ReplyDeleteWe can't believe Penelope's original adopter treated her that way by just dropping her off at the store. We hope that human is never allowed to adopt another animal ever! We hope the foster mom adopts her. That would be a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad that "Penelope" got back to where she belongs with her foster mom. What an awful thing to just leave that kitty after adopting her. Dust Bunny looks more like a rag-a-muffin with her wet, spiky furs. Poor girl. We can't believe Licorice doesn't have a home yet. She's such a pretty girl. She reminds us of our Lisbeth. Thanks for he updates. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...poor little Penelope. I just don't understand some people.
ReplyDeletePurrs for all the kitties...such sweeties. We hope they have true forever homes of love very soon.
Homes for all, I hope!!
ReplyDeleteA thump on the head to Penelope's original owners. They were probably afraid to take her to the original rescue due to her poor condition.
ReplyDeleteBreaks my heart to read stories like this. I pray she is NOT given back to her original adopters.
ReplyDeleteWe hope that both Penelope, Amelia and Licorice get good homes, thank goodness for their rescue.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand people….. sometimes...
ReplyDeleteThat's so terrible about what happened to Penelope. We are glad she is safe now.
ReplyDeletePoor Penelope! Some people don't deserve to have animals. I hope she finds her loving forever home soon.
ReplyDeleteAmelia is quite the gremilin when she is wet! Too funny!
I certainly hope Licorice finds a home soon too. She's such a pretty girl.
Purrs to sweet Penelope. And big purrs for loving forever homes to come forward for these kitties!
