More kittens

Good news: while mom was delivering the cheese girls, Ricotta got adopted too!!

The fruits are doing well. With it being a long weekend, mom gave them some freedom to run around the house. They seemed to have fun but will have to stay in the foster room while mom is working since they want all the attention.

Persimmon

Guava

The shelter reached out and asked if we could take a pair from them. Since the crate is empty and the kittens are little (plus mom already said no once before), we got Scotch Bonnet and Cubanelle.  As their names imply, the tortie is kind of spicy and the torbie is very much not. Mom actually refers to her as a potato.

Both are in meds for a cold though Cubanelle is more snotty. Scotch is currently suffering the kitten purrito as she is pretty hissy. First night she spit and was growling. Now it's more "unhand me peasant".

If you are in the US we hope the air banging over the weekend wasn't too terrible. It was loud here so Goldfish, Daiquiri and Buttons all hid. But it seemed to not last really long so that was good.

Adoption weekend

Most adoptions are fairly routine. Some are less so. The cheese girls getting adopted is on the second category.

Early on there was some interest in them both. But we never get our hopes up and we never pressure people to make an important decision like this. But as the kittens got older our friend Miss Julie said yes she wanted to adopt the girls. Yep - Cupcake and Ashton's mom.

Once the girls got healthy and were spayed, it was time to travel. Saturday morning everything was packed and ready to go including a pair of kittens.

Mom and the girls got checked in and through security. The flight was pretty quick and then they arrived. Brie came right out tail held high. Gouda got the indignity of being rinsed off since there was a minor accident in the carrier. But no harm done.

Ashton kept her distance but was curious. Cupcake gave them a lot of smack talk. But after a couple of days she wasn't doing anything more than hissing at them so we are pretty sure she will get over it in time. Mom just had to remind the girls that the new tuxedo may be related to the other tuxedo but their personalities are miles apart.

Brie slept with mom on Saturday and both girls showed up in the middle of the night on Sunday.

There are lots of new toys and new places to check out...especially the hex shapes on the walls. Both girls quickly figured out how to get up and down. Brie also found the front window.

But the picture that Miss Julie sent mom right before she got on the plane to come home was the best:

Congrats to the girls - now Sundae and Frosting - and their new family. Plus we will get updates !

More space

Early last week, Guava (the new tuxedo boy) moved into the big crate with Persimmon. The tiny princess initially did not approve of the interloper, but they were getting along fairly quickly. It became clear after a few says that Guava had likely just aspirated something and wasn't actually sick, so they were put together with permission of the rescue. There is always some risk, but they socialize much better with other kittens.

The cheeses are basically out during the day and in the foster room at night.

In fact, since they are out so much, mom decided to let the fruits run around in there during the day. They've been enjoying the space.

The cheeses are getting their bags packed. We will miss them but it's time for their next adventure and to clean the space for the next group.

We will need to warn Ricotta's new family that he has a packing paper addiction.

More kittens

The cheese kittens have their surgery date set for June 24. Gouda and Brie are pre-adopted and will go home that weekend. Ricotta is available and if no interest will likely go to a partner store that weekend.

Persimmon is so goofy. She's been getting time out of the crate with supervision. Mom puts her on the bed and lets her bounce around. She also purrs instantly when she gets attention.

We did get a call from the rescue on Saturday if we would take a single. Persimmon is going to need a friend so it was an instant yes. This tuxedo was founding a backyard but is pretty friendly. Has an upper respiratory infection though so wonder if she was dumped. On meds for now and introductions will happen in a couple of weeks.

It has been A week

First, summer has arrived and the windows are officially closed. We get it but as always spring seems too short.

The cheeses are doing ok. There have been some intestinal issues and it's making mom more than a little nuts. Vet visits and medicine and food restrictions. Everyone seems mostly on the upswing. Feta is still struggling a little but everyone is eating. Baths have been given though mom admits the foster room is a disaster zone.

Brie is sure none of this is her fault

Also a week ago the rescue got a call about kittens found under a deck. It's slightly more complicated than that, but bottom line was we picked up two tiny crusty kittens.

Unfortunately the tuxedo that we named Pomegranate crashed on Friday morning. Mom rushed him to the ER vet. He rallied a little but mom got the call early Saturday that he was declining. She went and held him while they let him go. Between being so tiny with fleas and a very nasty infection, he just didn't have enough resources to fight.

His sister Persimmon is doing good though. Still tiny and needs to put on some weight. Her eyes are cloudy and may end up being that way. But she's had a bath and loves food and has a typical torbie attitude.

We hope you are all doing well. Stay cool abd stay hydrated.

Are we sure it's spring

Mother Nature can't seem to decide. Last week we had to turn on the air conditioning and this weekend it's 25 degrees cooler.

Buttons is figuring out the cat tree by the window. The sliding door is still her favorite spot but isn't always available. Mom is letting Buttons figure it out at her own pace s that she understands how to get up and down.

The cheese kittens are doing well. Mostly. Vet visit scheduled for Wednesday since they do seem to be having some tummy issues and mom has tried all her tricks.

And this is Reisling one of the wine kittens from the same house (different mom). He's deaf and certainly sleeps like it.

Mom got plants for the balcony and fortunately got everything planted before we got several days of rain.

Getting closer

The kittens got their second set of vaccines and now we just need to get them big enough for spay and neuter. The girls are tentatively pre-adopted so that's exciting.

Brie and Gouda

Mom does constantly have to remind them they aren't supposed to be on the desk. So far she's only mildly successful but at least they haven't sent any weird messages on teams to mom's co-workers.

Every one here is doing fairly well. Had a few open windows which is nice.

And mom is gearing up to plant the boxes on the balcony.

News

Fromage got adopted!! Never even made it to a partner store. A lady saw her post and filled out an application. She went home Sunday and there is another cat in the home so they will take it slow. Thankfully Fromage has been fine around other cats.

Detour graduated from hissy school and is now at a partner store for adoption. Reports on Sunday was she was hiding but that's not surprising. Hopefully another day or do and she will relax. She quirky but sweet.

The cheese kittens are doing well. Probably another couple of weeks until surgery and then available for adoption. Plus we discovered that Gouda has bi-colored eyes.

The fun ages

The kittens will be 7 weeks old on Tuesday and this is such a fun age.

First, Fromage is off to her next adventure. She will be spayed on Tuesday and then off to a partner store by the weekend. She's obviously super cute but she's also very social with people and is good with other cats.

As for the kittens, everything is a try and a fun adventure. They got their first vaccines and are having a blast running around and playing.

The other morning we caught a great video too:

Have a great week!!
