Random Fridays.....

Triscuit is going to Petco tomorrow.....yep - time for her to find her own home. Mom does say she is gonna miss the girl (don't tell mom - we might miss her a little too).

There was a bug on the window the other night and mom got a picture and then.....there was this
(sorry you are having to click the link - mom changed her password and somehow she can't imbed movies anymore....)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To Allie, Maxwell and Faraday's mom: we are sorry you didn't get to meet Triscuit. Mom says she didn't realize that and had she known you could have come up to the room to meet the baby....
~~~~~~~~~~~

This is David. He was brought into the shelter....he is 12 year old and wasn't neutered. The shelter neutered him and cleaned his teeth. But then determined he was super shy and due to his age weren't going to make him available for adoption. A man I volunteer with (Mike) saw him in one room and was determined to save him. David is now with Mike and Carole (Mike's wife). They have two cats of their own and are going to try to integrate him into their home, but they aren't sure how their Maine Coon will do. So......if you know of anyone that may want to add a VERY sweet old man cat into their family, let us know. He needs a few sammiches, but otherwise is in good health and is FIV/FeLV negative.
~~~~~~~~~~~
If someone in your area offered Kitten Kindergarten, would you have taken your kitten? Mom keeps hearing interesting things. Plus, with taking Triscuit to Blog Paws, it has become even more evident to her how much socialization can make a difference. She is thinking about talking to the vets that help the rescue.....thoughts? ideas?
For those who are interested, the award ceremony from Blog Paws is online here. And remember....more catbell!!
  1. There is no doubt that lots of socialisation i a huge asset. When Tama had her kittens, we tried to get as many different people as people in to play with them and cuddle them (whilst taking all necessary sanitary precautions, of course). It seemed to work really well.
  2. That kitten kindergarten sounds like such a good idea. Seeing Triscuit at Blog paws really made me think how well she is socialized now.
    We sure hope that David finds a home. That is always so sad about an older cat. Take care.
  3. Good for Mike and Carole. Too many people think an older cat isn't adoptable. The rescue-group I volunteer with had a seventeen year old - with only one eye! - and she was adopted by the people fostering her. An old cat is just one with more character. I am fostering a boy who is estimated to be ten, but he would be THE best cat for any household or situation. Good luck to David.
  4. We cannot even express how much we are going to miss Triscuit. She has become a favorite for so many of us. The video was adorable. On to the declawing issue. The two no kill orgs our mom works with have a clause in their contract with adopters stating that the cats may not be declawed. We suppose anyone could sign this and then go out and declaw the kitty. We just have to take people at their word. But we think it would be a good idea if you put something like this into your adoption contracts. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
  5. Fingers and paws crossed for Triscuit, to find the perfect home.
    Purrs for David--he looks like he needs a bit of TLC and a lot of cuddles. Poor sweetie.
    My four adoptees were older when coming into my home, Jeanne, but if I had a kitten and if kitten kindergarten were affordable, I'd do it. I think it's a great idea, a super way to socialize them.
  8. Kittergarden sounds like fun! Mommy wants to attend.
    HEY!!! We got a package in the mail from your Mom! Thank you so much...the yarn stringy is a HIT with The Whale (Salem)--she loves to chase it around. Maybe she'll pare off an ounce or two, MOL. The doily toys are great to chase and have Mommy retrieve 'em...it's great watching her whine about getting up a squillion times.
  12. Aw man, my human and I are really going to miss Triscuit!
    I say YES to kitten kindergartens! I don't think most humans really understand how much socialization makes a difference. My breeder was widowed the year before I was born, and I was part of her first litter afterwards. I did not get as much socialization as her litters normally do, and it does make a big difference.
  16. We think the more socialization the better. Definitely makes for a more well-rounded cat. Triscuit is a perfect example of this. We hope she finds a great home! And good luck to David..we hope it works out for him.
  19. Wishing Triscuit well..
    I fear kitten kindergarten due to too many illnesses that aren't preventable.. I like the idea, but I still fear it.. but that's just me.
