why I oughtta......

we cede the floor to the mom.... (for today at least)

Thanks guys. As most of you know, a neighbor and I started doing TNR on the community cats in our condo association in the fall of 2010. Over that time, we have found 6 kittens, trapped about 8 adults and adopted out 2 older kittens (Junior being one of them).

The other kitten was Madam. A neighbor said she had been seeing her and thought she was friendly and wanted to take her in. Now, this lady didn't offer to help with the cost, but whatever.  That was September 2010.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago.....the neighbor who was helping with the TNR got a call from K____ who had taken in Madam. Seems her condo was being foreclosed, she moved out and left Madam outside.

EXCUSE ME?????

Needless to say, the neighbor and I were.....there are just no words. Madam was out for a couple of weeks. Last night I got a call. Another neighbor, D___, had gone out and realized the front door to K___'s condo was unlocked. She opened the door and Madam shot inside (Madam had been sitting outside the door crying several times per day). I went over, we chased her around a bit and I managed to get her caught and in a carrier. 3 hours later, she was tested, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go.

D___ said she wanted to try her with her other cat. Not sure how it is going, but if that doesn't work out, I will figure out something else. In the meantime, at least Madam is inside and safe. And if I ever catch K____, that is a whole other issue......

  1. Please tell me this "person" doesn't have any children, so didn't pass on her stupid and ignorant genes.

    SO glad you got Madam!

  3. Our Teri always says...Irresponsible pet owners are irresponsible in ALL areas of their lives, and this just proves that out...Glad you were there for her!

  4. I agree with every commenter here today and think that the situation is deplorable..meaning that woman who did that horrible unkind thing. I feel terribly for Madam and thank Cod that she has you all.

By the way, those two scratch pads that are down are the cardboard ones. Sigh.

  5. That is just horrible. I have somewhat the same situation going on here. I hope Madam works out in her new home. Thank heavens, she has all of you to help her.
Got any ideas of what to do with a cat that doesn't like other cats or dogs or toddlers and she is 7 years old. I took her in as a foster and now the rescue I was helping is talking about possibly putting her down. Darn it all.
Madam, we are keeping our paws crossed for you.

  6. I wish I knew how to send a virtual butt kicking. These kinds of stories just break my heart. How on earth could anyone ever think it is a reasonable thing to do? Thank heavens Madam is safe now with good people.

  7. These kind of stories just break my heart. The only way I can keep from getting totally depressed from them is to keep in mind that what goes around...some day this woman is going to really, really need someone and guess what? They are not going to be there for her!

  8. Poor beautiful Madam!! Oh me and Charlie are just so glad she is safe with you now. We are so horrified by what this K creature has done. :-(

But we believe there's such a thing as karma.

    Take care

  12. Ooh... poor Madam! And to think that she's crying for the loss of... of... of that horribly wicked idiot who left her all alone, to fend for herself. There's no excuse for that kind of behaviour. None at all except for perhaps ignorance and stupidity. People like that should be... well, I won't say 'cause I'm too nice of a cat for those kind of words. But I am glad that you were able to help Madam and hopefully all will work out in her new home.

Oh I seriously hope there is some reason like Madam got out and she couldnt find her.. but seriously! how much chance is there of that?
So so so so SO glad you saved her, again! Extra hugs for Madam and for YOU! And for D__ I hope it works out. Perminantly!

  15. Thank Cod you are there for Madam! Poor little pusskins, I feel so bad for her, you know most of our crew are/were dumpers. It's some consolation knowing karma will catch up with "K", but not much.

  16. The other day I heard on the news someone say that people have to choose between feeding their kids, or feeding their pets, so they abandon the pets. It's still no excuse! At least they did tell people to think about how much it costs to own a pet and gave average costs per year. There's a sad story that happened recently around here that a dog was abandoned inside a house and animal control said property rights come first so their hands were tied. They finally were able to get in and seize the dog with the owners permission. I'm so glad Utah has animal cruelty laws, but we still have so long to go in properly caring for animals. I really hope things work out for Madam.

  17. sometimes momma has to wonder WHAT THE HECK ARE PEOPLE THINKING...we hear her say that all of the time regarding rescued animals.

Thank the stars Madam has you and D as angels. We hope a home and forever security is found quickly.

  18. Oh geez, poor Madam! I think that human who abandoned her had better not ever run into anyone who read your blog post!

  19. hissssssssssssss!!! poor Madam! It's so sad first that people are so heartless to do such a thing but also how pets are innocent victims to the economy :(

We hope things will work out with D. Purrs,

    Pip, SMidgen, Minnie, Hollie

  20. We hear this so often. What's WRONG with those people???? And yes, we echo Fuzzy Tales in hoping she doesn't breed.

  21. Well, K probably set up a forwarding address. Take a picture of Madam crying and lost and address it to her old condo. It should get forwarded to wherever she moved to...

  22. Oh we love Mark Mews' idea...maybe it will help K find her brain and heart.LP suspects K's brain is half baked and her heart is missing in action. Um. WTF? There were so many more responsible and reasonable options available to her other than leaving Madam out in the cold. Some days LP truly despairs about people...
